Jennifer Shafer Wood is an accomplished professional artist who has been painting, and drawing most of her life. Her painting, "Womb" was published on the cover of, "Grief Un Seen Healing Pregnancy Loss Through The Arts", by Laura Seftel, 2006. She was commissioned to design and fabricate, "The Cow That Jumped Over The Moon" for West Hartford Cow Parade, that was auctioned off to a private collector in Edinburgh, Scotland for $2,500. In 2007 she designed and fabricated a mural for the Papaya Patch Baby Boutique in West Hartford, CT. Wood has been exhibited in New York, Connecticut, California, and Geneva, Switzerland. Her work is in private collections across the United States and Europe, "When I write or paint the energy moves through me and I am out of my linear mind and in the abstract of my imagination. It's a life long journey," Jennifer Shafer Wood.
Her alter ego, she calls, J-Cherry, is a performer, poet, singer/songwriter, emcee, and radio DJ. Came into full consciousness in 2006, "This part of myself has been around my whole life, the part of me that sings and performs, but she was in the shadows until poetry freed her to come out and sing," she said. Born and raised in music and art, she has been writing poetry her whole life. As a child she sang in the school, and church chorus, but stopped singing publicly except to her children for many years, "you're never to old, and it's never to late to do what you love!" J-Cherry.
Her father was a multitalented jazz composer and musician. He died in 2001 and his legacy live on in J. Her mother is a jazz pianist and composer, and her stepfather is a multi gifted jazz and blues composer, and musician. J-Cherry played music with both her mother and step-father in a band called, Thin Air. That performed throughout the State of Connecticut in 2007/2009. J-Cherry is the host and producer of, Monday Night Anything Goes Open Microphone at the Buttonwood Tree in Middletown, CT, and the producer/radio host for the show, J-Cherry Presents: Art on Air on WESU 88.1 FM, Middletown.
